Nina Haughn Cuthbertson was born January 29, 1912 on a farm east of Paola to Arthur Boyd and Nettie (Rose) Haughn. She attended Davenport Grade School and Paola High School with the Class of 1930. She was married to Jacob (Art) Cuthbertson on February 3, 1930. Nina was a farm wife and homemaker working alongside her husband at farms near Paola, Hillsdale and DeSoto during their early years of marriage. In 1949, they purchased their own farm near Spring Hill where they lived until the 1980"s. After her husband"s death in 1991, Nina moved to an apartment in Paola where she lived until 2007 when she went to live at North Point Skilled Nursing Center. She passed away at North Point on May 1, 2012. Nina loved travelling as long as she was physically able, gardening, fishing and watching the KC Royals play baseball on television. After moving to Paola and until she moved to North Point, she could be seen almost every weekday on her daily walk near Park Square before or after lunch at the Senior Center. For several years at North Point, she could normally be found with other residents in the TV room at the card table playing card games and she never passed up a game of Bingo any time it was scheduled. Nina was a longtime member of the Paola First Baptist Church and served on the board of the Paola Senior Center from 1996 to 2007. On January 28, 2012, well over 100 family and friends gathered to celebrate her amazing century of life. Nina was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art; four sisters; one brother; and three grandchildren, Phillip Cuthbertson, Chris Cuthbertson and Lori (Newton) Crawford. She is survived by three children, Barbara Plummer of Osawatomie, Delores Newton of Hillsdale and Bill Cuthbertson of Carlsbad, NM; 8 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 22 great-great grandchildren. Her faith and strong spirit will be missed by her friends and family members. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 207 E Wea Street, Paola, KS 66071 or Mid-America Nutrition Program, 1538 Industrial Avenue, Ottawa, KS 66067.
