Nadine E. Minden, 91, passed away October 1, 2013 at Kansas City Hospice House. Nadine was born April 5, 1922 to Henry and Emma Hunemoerder Prothe in Paola, Kansas. As a youth at age 14, she worked at the Miami County Jail cooking and cleaning for the prisoners. She also cleaned other families" homes. During the prohibition times it was her job to pour out confiscated whiskey. Nadine was united in marriage to Reinhart Fredrick "R. F." Minden on January 28, 1940 in Block, Kansas. Together they farmed in rural Miami County. Nadine worked for the housekeeping department at the State Hospital. She enjoyed quilting, reading, canning and gardening. She was very active in the Lutheran Ladies Aid until her failing health resulted in her retirement. She continued to enjoy spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters Elsie Dageford, Velma Minden, and Evelyn Minden Reike; one brother Irwin Prothe; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Minden Gibson. She is survived by her daughter Joyce Hutter; sons Don and Glenn Minden; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Memorials may be made to Miami County Cancer Foundation.
