Mark A. McCain, Sr., 52, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at his home in Michigan Valley, Kansas, with his wife by his side. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 8, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the mortuary. Interment Valley Brook Cemetery, Overbrook, Kansas. Mark was born Tuesday, November 13, 1962, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Marshall and Lyla (Wischropp) McCain. He was a lifelong Michigan Valley resident. He graduated from Santa Fe Trail High School in Overbrook, with the class of 1981. Mark was united in marriage with Patty Trask February 18, 1984 in Michigan Valley. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his mother, Lyla Rae Ramirez and husband Ramon of Marshall, Missouri; four children, April Mangum of Rhome, Texas, Mark A. McCain, Jr. and wife Alyssa of Vassar, Marshall R. McCain of the home in Michigan Valley, and Steven Pollot of Geneva, New York; siblings, Todd McCain and partner Cindy of Michigan Valley, Ramona Bettencourt of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Adam Ramirez of Utica, New York, and Rachele Schaffer of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Austin Mangum, Jared Mangum, and Nick Pollot; and several nieces and nephews survive including Chris McCain of Michigan Valley, and Josh McCain and wife Tiffany of Carbondale. He was preceded in death by his father, Marshall McCain; and stepmother, Evelyn Marlene McCain. He worked as a near lifelong commercial carpenter and for six years worked for the Kansas Neurological Institute as a boiler technician. He attended the Appanoose Baptist Church. Mark was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather whose greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed Arrowhead hunting, hunting, and fishing. He will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of his family and friends forever.
