Leroy Leo Spicher, 91, of Paola, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at his home. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Dengel & Son Mortuary-Crematory, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS, 66071. Leroy was born Tuesday, November 5, 1929, in Asherville, KS, the son of Wilbur and Thelma (Robertson) Spicher. He graduated from Simpson, Kansas High School in 1947. After graduation he served his country with the United States Navy receiving his honorable discharge in 1948. He then attended college at Fort Hayes State University where he played baseball as a catcher. He was married to Betty Allen and they became the parents of four children. Their marriage ended in divorce. On May 4, 1977 Leroy and Arlene (Effland) Finney were married. They made their home in Asherville and moved to Paola in 1989. Leroy farmed for 30 years. He raised feeder cattle and had a cow/calf operation. Later in life, he worked as a groundskeeper on golf courses at several places over the years including Beloit Country Club, Wolf Creek, Spring Hill, Ottawa, and Paola Country Club. He had served as president of the Elks in the 1960s in Beloit. He refereed basketball games for many years. He was an avid hunter. He enjoyed the outdoors, boating and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arlene, his son Max Spicher, and his sister Virginia LeSage.. Survivors include two sons Mark (Pam) Spicher of Lincoln, NE and Mike (Kathy) Spicher of Beloit, KS; daughter Michelle Teague of Sallisaw, OK; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Memorials are to the Kansas City VA Clinic and can be sent c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary-Crematory, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS, 66071.
