Lawrence L. “Larry” Smith, 86, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kansas. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. The family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at the mortuary. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. Larry was born December 31, 1935, in Pomona, Kansas, the son of Silas and Mary (Kirkman) Smith. He was a lifelong Pomona resident and graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1953. Larry was united in marriage to Alberta Mudd December 18, 1957, in Seguin, Texas. She preceded him in death on November 6, 2015. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959 serving as military police. Larry was a lifelong farmer and stockman. He also worked for the Ottawa Coop for thirty years holding many positions, retiring as feed store manager in 1997. Larry was the former sexton of Greenwood Cemetery and a member of Power of the Past Antique Engine and Tractor Association. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, cruises and bus trips. Larry also enjoyed western music, movies and books. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Rick Smith, brothers, Bosco, Ted, Ralph, Raymond and Bill Smith, sisters, Betty Heinlein, Cleda Rea and Dolly Davatz. Larry was the last remaining member of his siblings. Survivors include son Randy Smith (Joyce) of Ottawa; daughter-in-law Becky Smith of Ottawa; grandchildren Heather Foster (Kyle), Brandi Harnett (Charlie), Matt Smith, Shandon Smith (Alissa), Britney Smith and Chris Smith and great-grandchildren, Blaine Foster, Cooper Foster and Eisley Smith. The family suggests memorial contributions to Greenwood Community Building Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
