Larry Thornbrugh, 51, of Waverly, passed away Monday, January 14, 2019, at Topeka Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare. Larry will lie in state from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, January 20, 2019, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 21st at the mortuary with funeral services to begin at 2:00 P.M. Interment Pleasant View Cemetery, Agricola. Larry was born May 24, 1967, in Ottawa, the son of James Franklin and Judith Leanne (Van Valkenburg) Thornbrugh. He was a lifelong Waverly resident. He attended Waverly High School and received his GED in 1987. Larry continued his education at Pratt Community College earning his Associate of Arts degree in 1993 in Electrical Power Distribution. Survivors include his mother, Judee Thornbrugh of Waverly; two sons, Treavor Thornbrugh of Emporia and Tyler Thornbrugh and wife Pamela of Waverly; two brothers, Dale Thornbrugh of Waverly and Robert Thornbrugh and wife Mary also of Waverly; and four grandchildren, Sophia, Terrah, Kailee and Amber Thornbrugh. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Thornbrugh and brother, Mark Thornbrugh. Larry started working as an apprentice lineman in 1988. He was employed with the City of Ponca City, Oklahoma as a lineworker/operator. Upon returning to Kansas, he did electrical contract work through the union; was employed with Prestressed Concrete, Inc., of Newton as a laborer; McDonald & Nickel Cabinet and Trim of Wichita as a carpenter; Hay and Forage Industries of Hesston as a machinist; Haven Steel of Ottawa as an electric overhead crane operator; and Thornbrugh Automotive of Melvern as an auto mechanic. He was a member of IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 304 of Topeka since August 1, 1999. Larry loved his family and friends, farm work, mechanical work, hunting and fishing. The family suggests memorial contributions be made payable to Dengel & Son Mortuary (the contributions will be used for Larry Thornbrugh’s grandchildren’s educational fund) c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
