Karlos Gene 'Karl' Sieg was born Saturday, November 18, 1939, at Wellsville, Kansas, the son of Elmer C. and Elsie L. (Wallgren) Sieg. Karl lived in the New York City metropolitan area; Lagos, Nigeria; Ahwaz, Iran; and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, moving to Denver, Colorado in the late 1970's. In 1990, he moved to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where he made his home, until his death Friday, June 17, 2005, at the age of sixty-five years. Karl graduated from Wellsville High School with the class of 1957. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1961, and his Master's Degree in Petroleum and Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1964. He is listed in Who's Who in Engineering. Mr. Sieg was a licensed Professional Engineer in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and New York. He also held a series VII Stock Broker's license. He was currently, and for the last fifteen years, President of Sieg Energy. Previously, he was employed by the Kansas Geological Survey; Amoco Oil; Mobil Oil; Mobil Oil Nigeria; National Iran Oil; Mobil Oil Denver; and Cooper's & Lybrand Energy Division. A man who worked hard to achieve his goals, and one who greatly enjoyed his career, he was also a consultant to many independent oil firms. Karl was an active member of Sacred Heart Church; Sacred Heart Council #3018, Knights of Columbus; Society of Petroleum Engineers; Ottawa Lodge #803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; and Delta Sigma Phi Alumni. Karl was a devoted husband, son, father, and grandfather, who was so very proud of his family. He was united in marriage with Marianne Daugherty. She survives of their home and is blessed with many years of happy memories to cherish. He is also survived by his mother, Elsie L. Sieg of Ottawa; three sons, Dr. Greg Sieg and his wife, Mary, of Orlando, Florida, Dr. Kent Sieg of Washington, D.C., Keith Sieg and his wife, Carmelita, of Micronesia; two grandsons, Jonathan Sieg, James Sieg; and two granddaughters, Katerina Sieg and Christel Sieg. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer C. Sieg, and sister, Delores Sieg-Williams. SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2005. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Fr. Tod Ziegler, Monsignor Michael Mullen, Fr. Tony Blaufuss. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Sieg at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, where a Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a family visitation at 7:00.
