Joseph William Caleb, 79, of Apache Junction, AZ, died Saturday, May 4, 2002 in Mesa, AZ. He was born July 16, 1922 in Ottawa, KSRESIDENCE HISTORY: Joe lived in Ottawa and Garnett, Kansas, until moving to Apache Junction, Arizona in 1976. He attended Indian schools as he was growing up at Wyandotte, Oklahoma, Genoa, Nebraska, and Haskell at Lawrence, Kansas. Before moving to Arizona, Joe was employed by Ford and Chevrolet Agencies in Ottawa and Olathe, and State Farm Insurance in Garnett. In 1976, he moved to Apache Junction, where he owned and operated Caleb`s Collectibles and Antique Store, until he retired in 2001. During World War II, Joe served with the Army Air Force 64th Airdrome Squadron in Europe and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1945. He was a life member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6397 in Garnett; life member of Ottawa Lodge #803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; and, member of American Legion Post #27, Apache Junction. On July 17, 1971, Joe was united in marriage with Iris Plaschka Brownrigg She survives of their home. SERVICES: Memorial services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002. IN STATE: Mr. Caleb was cremated. CEMETERY: Muncie Indian Cemetery, Franklin County, Kansas.
