John Eggleston

John M. Eggleston, age 68 of Paola, passed away Wednesday, May 19th at his home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Riders or Olathe Hospice. John was born May 23, 1941 in Lawrence, Kansas and graduated from Paola High School; he spent most of his life in Paola. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 5, 1960 and was stationed on the U.S.S. Independence before being honorably discharged on July 31, 1964. On May 29, 1986 he was united in marriage to Tamara Watson in Miami, Oklahoma and they made their home in Paola. John worked for the City of Paola as a police officer for 10 years. John also worked for the City of Osawatomie with the Public Works Dept., as a building inspector, heavy equipment operator, and was also an auctioneer. He enjoyed carpentry, working with his hands, and working at Wal-Mart as a greeter before retiring in 2007. His hobbies were motorcycles, playing the guitar, fishing, dancing, traveling, watching high school football, and especially watching his grandchildren participate in sports. He enjoyed spending time with his fellow veterans and was member of the American Legion Riders, the Patriot Guard, Honor Guard, Osawatomie Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paola. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors are his wife Tamara of the home; son, Bill Butler and wife Tammy of Osawatomie; daughter, Courtney and husband Frank Moley of Spring Hill; daughter, Serenity Boedicker and husband Douglas of Paola, and 7 grandchildren.
