John Emery Ennis, 96, of Paola, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Country Club Estates in Paola. Family will meet with friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Paola United Methodist Church followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be in the Paola Cemetery. John was born Thursday, June 30, 1921, in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of Charles A. and Myrtle (Fisher) Ennis. John graduated from Miltonvale High School, Miltonvale, KS. From 1942 until 1946, during World War II, John served our country in the United States Army Air Force. At the time of his honorable discharge, he had earned the rank of sergeant. He was united in marriage to Barbara Liebst on May 15, 1953, in Kansas City, MO. They became the parents of two sons Scott and Brad. John was employed by CIT Financial Corp. from 1950 - 1969. He then went to Southgate Bank and in 1972 was employed at Miami County National Bank as a loan officer until retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Paola United Methodist Church and a life member of the American Legion. He had served as Paola's Babe Ruth baseball president and as the 13-year-olds' Kansas State Commissioner. He had also been an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels. As a member of the Lions Club, he acted as Blood Drive Coordinator. John was a sports fan. His favorite baseball team was the New York Yankees. His favorite basketball team was the KU Jayhawks. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Ennis, father Charles A. Ennis, mother Myrtle Ennis, brother Charles Ennis, and sister Kate Loveland. Survivors include his two sons Scott (Janet) Ennis of Las Vegas, NV and Brad (Robin) Ennis of Paola; four grandchildren Shaylan Miller (Andy), Ashley Ludwick (Mike), Heath Fellers, and Hayley McVay (Samuel); four great grandchildren Kelbi Miller, Ellis McVay, Emery McVay, and Eden McVay; other relatives and friends. The family suggests memorial contributions to Paola United Methodist Church, Ascend Hospice, or charity of your choice c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary-Crematory, 305 North Pearl Street, Paola, KS 66071.
