Hazel Irene Coffman, age 92, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Monday, October 3, 2011, at Village Manor Nursing Home in Ottawa. She was born on Tuesday, September 9, 1919, in Oskaloosa, Kansas, the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Margaret Jane (Hartman) Ray. She lived in Lawrence and Paola before moving to Ottawa in May of 1959. Hazel attended schools in Lawrence and two years of Bible School. She worked for Ransom Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide over twenty-six years, retiring in 1985. She was a former member of Christian Women’s Club and Women’s Aglow, and current member of Crosspointe Community Church, all of Ottawa. On Thursday, October 3, 1940, Hazel was united in marriage with Albert Eli Coffman in Lawrence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 25, 1990. Survivors include: Son-Albert Coffman and his wife, Shirley, of Ottawa, Kansas; Daughter-Naomi Wilson and her husband, Robert, of Richmond, Kansas; Daughter-in-law-Rosemary Coffman of Ottawa, Kansas; Brother-Alfred Ray of Topeka, Kansas; Grandchildren-Ten; Gt.Grandchildren-Twenty-four and Gt.Gt.Grandchildren-Eighteen. She is prededed in death by her: Husband-Albert Eli Coffman; Parents-Benjamin Harrison and Margaret Jane Ray; Son-John Coffman; Brother-Howard Ray; Brother-Wilbur Ray; Brother-Melvin Ray; Sister-Dorothy Higgins and a grand daughter. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 7, 2011, at Hardy Oak Cemetery, north of Lawrence, Kansas. CEMETERY: Hardy Oak Cemetery, north of Lawrence, Kansas.
