George E. Streebin, 90, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017, at Morningstar Care Homes of Baldwin City. Family will meet with friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Graveside services will immediately follow at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. George was born January 19, 1927, in Ottawa, the son of G. I. “Ike” and Lela (Campbell) Streebin. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident. He attended Ottawa High School with the class of 1945. George was united in marriage to Ilda “Deanie” Thompson August 2, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his two children, Michael Streebin and wife Peggy of Ottawa, and Lori Stewart also of Ottawa; sister, Pauline Yockey of Tallahassee, Florida; two grandchildren, Joshua Streebin and wife Carrie of Olathe, and Taylor Stewart of Ottawa; one great-granddaughter; and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Lela Streebin; sister, Virginia Robertson; and infant sister, Ruth Streebin. George served in the United States Army in Korea from 1955 to 1957. He was a lifelong self-employed farmer/stockman. He was a member of the Ottawa Lodge 803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5901 and former member of the Ottawa Aerie Lodge 2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles. George was a 30-year board member for Franklin County rural water district #5. George enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and his dogs. Above all, he loved his family and grandchildren and the time they spent together.
