Ethelyn Morgan

July 4, 1932 — January 28, 2013

Ethelyn Elaine Morgan, age 80, of rural Fontana, Kansas, died Monday, January 28, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. Ethel was born July 4, 1932 at Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Arthur James and Mary Alpha (Davis) Rice. She graduated from Parker Rural High School. She worked at Brotherhood State Bank in Kansas City, Kansas after graduating from high school. She was united in marriage to Clyde Eugene Morgan, Sr., on January 23, 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas. They made their home in Fort Riley, Kansas and became the parents of three children. They moved to Butler, Missouri for a couple of years before moving to their rural Fontana farm in 1959 and remained there since that time. Ethel was first and foremost a homemaker. Her family was her number one priority. She had an upholstery business out of her home for about 7 or 8 years. She was an excellent seamstress. She was the sewing leader for many years for the Osage Pioneers 4-H Club of Fontana where her children were members. She also enjoyed quilting. She had even taken on the challenge of refinishing antique trunks, taking classes through the Miami County Extension office. Ethel was a bird watcher. She had a book of birds so that she could identify any bird she saw. She especially liked humming birds. Although Ethel had many hobbies, her family and their farm was the pride and joy of her life. She was a member of the Fontana Methodist Church. She was also a member of Miami County EHU and the Harmony Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Ernest and Richard Rice, a half sister Clara Hobbs Burgess, three half brothers Arthur, James, and Eugene Rice, and a step-brother Harold Rowe. She is survived by her husband Clyde of the home; her daughter Sandra Jean Morgan of Fontana; two sons Clyde, Jr., of Rantoul and Kevin of Fontana; two sisters Emma Rice of Raytown, Missouri and Roberta Woodall of Mackscreek, Missouri; one brother Merwin Rice of Osawatomie; 8 grandchildren Riley Morgan, Rustain Morgan, Cassie Shultz, Ryan Schweer, Shannon Lee, Devin Morgan, Dallas Kline, and Paige Raymond; 9 great grandchildren Reece Morgan, Karis Morgan, Thatcher Morgan, Reghan Morgan, Darin Schweer, Dilan Schweer, Cheerful Lee, Nick Lee, and Emery Morgan; many other relatives and friends.
