David Monroe Andrews passed away February 22, 2016 in Paola, KS surrounded by loved ones. David M. Andrews was born on October 29, 1924 on a farm near Jacksonville, MO to Winfred S. Andrews and Mattie (Barcus) Andrews. He attended a local elementary school and Macon High School in Macon, MO, where he graduated as president of his class in 1942. David graduated in 1949 from Kansas University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering; he was a member of SigmaTau, honorary engineering fraternity, and an honorary military graduate. He served in the Army in WWII and the Korean War and was discharged as a 1st Lt. David lived in Wyandotte County most of his life and worked as a professional engineer for Alcoa, Owens Corning Fiberglass, Grinnell Co, and Coffman Industries. He had his own business as a Manufacturers Agent for engineered products. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where he served for one term as elder. In his later years he was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church in Paola, Kansas. David was active in the Kansas City, KS community where he was an honorary life member of the Kansas City, KS Chamber of Commerce and served one term as a member of Piper school board. He served as a board member of Wyandotte County State Bank and president of the Wyandotte County Extension Council. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Phyllis (Erickson) Andrews, his son Mark D. Andrews, and his stepson Jeffrey Copeland. He is survived by his wife, Vera (Copeland) Andrews, children Kathryn J. (Andrews) Hernandez of Palm Desert, CA, Lisa (Andrews) Flax (Greg) of Ness City, KS, daughter-in-law Anita Andrews of Kansas City, KS, and Stepsons Dennis Copeland (Susan) of North Kansas City, MO, Douglas Copeland (Mette) of Paola, KS. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, one great grandchild, and five great step grandchildren.
