August 11, 1939 — February 17, 2019

Connie L. Dempsay, 79, of Rantoul, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 P.M., Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Hope Anthem Church, 520 E. 13th Street, Ottawa. The family invites everyone in attendance to reminisce immediately following the service. Connie was born August 11, 1939, in Peoria Township, the daughter of Marion Arthur “Pappy” and Ermel “Honey” (Caylor) Dempsay. She was a near lifelong Rantoul resident. She graduated from Rantoul Township High School. Connie was united in marriage to Billie Elbert Dewald June 16, 1965. They later divorced. Survivors include two sons, Brian Dewald and Royal “Pete” Simms of Rantoul, and Billy Dewald also of Rantoul; and the youngest, a daughter, Carol Harper and husband Don of Block; brother, William “Bill” Dempsay of Tucson, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Farren Niblack of Douglass, Joshua Dewald of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Bethany Dewald, Sephereno Bond, Phoenyx Bond, Isaac Roullett, Brody Roullett, and Abigail Roullett all of Rantoul; and three great-grandchildren, Vayda Niblack, Viola Niblack and Vanna Niblack. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Clifford “Tiny” Dempsay. Connie worked with her father and brothers in their family’s business, D&D Aero in Rantoul, throughout the existence of the venture. She was employed as an equipment operator with Killough Construction. Connie worked in construction for 20 years, retiring in 1998. She also owned a filling station and convenience store. She was a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church. She would also attend Paola Assembly of God and Community Foursquare Church. Connie enjoyed gardening, planting trees, remodeling, decoration, cooking and buying things online. She enjoyed watching Bluebloods and anything which included animals. The family wishes to express their thankfulness to the doctors and staff of Ransom Memorial Hospital for the excellent care that Connie received and the extremely compassionate way she was cared for.
