Alberta Smith, 79, of the Greenwood, Kansas community, passed away Friday, November 6, 2015, at Brookside Retirement Community. Family will meet with friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, November 12, 2015, at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. Alberta was born Friday, January 24, 1936, in Barlow, Kentucky, the daughter of Albert and Lucille (Martin) Mudd. Alberta was raised in Kentucky. She was stationed in Texas while serving in the United States Army during the mid 1950s. She did clerical work and was a photographer. In 1960, she moved to the Greenwood, Kansas, community. She graduated from Ballard County Kentucky High with the class of 1954. Alberta was united in marriage with Larry Smith December 18, 1957, in Seguin, Texas. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her two sons, Randy Smith and wife Joyce of Ottawa, and Rick Smith and wife Becky also of Ottawa; sister, Lou Nelle Tyler and husband Howard of La Center, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Heather Foster and husband Kyle of Ottawa, Shandon Smith and wife Alissa of Pomona, Brandi Harnett and husband Charlie of Iola, Britney Smith of Ottawa, Matt Smith of Ottawa, and Chris Smith also of Ottawa; and two great-grandchildren, Blaine Foster and Cooper Foster. She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant brother, Gene Mudd. Alberta was a devoted homemaker. She also worked for Parmelee Industries, in production, in the late 1960s to early1970s, and Franklin Savings, in accounts receivable during the 1980s. She was a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church, Share & Care, Ladies Aid Society, and helped on the election board. She enjoyed being at home with her family and grandchildren, baking, cooking and making pie crust.
